Kastro, Panagia Paraportiani

The city's oldest quarter is situated around the antique Kastro and, therefore, called the Castle Quarter. Here, Panagia Paraportiani Church is enthroned proudly and gracefully on a little bank above the city. Its fronts are asymmetrically designed, its architecture being in the whole country extraordinary and unique.

Historically, Panagia Paraportiani grew together from several small churches, finally forming a snow-white overall artwork.

Today it has five single chapels, which are usually closed but nevertheless offer an impressive sight even from outside. Pictorial medieval houses are clustered around the church, topping of the sight's beauty.
