Mykonos and Delos

Mykonos

Mythology

Mykonos has a phantastic, sometimes even weird mythology - like all places in Greece, actually. It is said that one of the twelve deeds of half-god Hercules consisted in defeating severa giants. When he thew them into the sea, they set to stone, and that is how Mykonos originated.

Also, a legendary fight between Zeus and the gigantes is said to have take place here. The island is named after one of the sun-god's Apollo grandsons, Mykon. The nearby island Delos is Apollo's birth place according to the legend.
